    Ad Lounge 2014
    Messe Frankfurt

The unusual trade fair appearance for the design and style magazine AD Architectural Digest at the “Ambiente 2014” was “in praise of shadows” – a bow to the partner country Japan and its aesthetic tradition. In the famous essay of the same name it is said that taste is a morbid and “impure thing” – referred to, for example, is the glossy worn paper brought to mind by the “lanterns” hanging above the stand. Allusions of this sort are hidden everywhere: in the weaving technique of the stools, similar to that found in Japan; in the ceramics, which to the untrained eye seem strangely course; and in the pictures of the Japanese artist Motoko Dobshi, who actually learned her craft in Munich. Perhaps that is why taste isn’t always totally pure – because it is a vagabond.
